The rear door and handle side.
The Defender's rear door swings open to the right. The left-hand handle is usually easier to reach around the open door; a right-hand handle remains available. Handle side is separate from the mounting position in the boot.
Left and right are described from behind the vehicle, looking into the loadspace. The 86 cm system mounts centrally. The 56 cm system can be positioned left, centrally or right where the installation permits.
A side-hinged rear door is not a lower split tailgate. Defender routing comes from the vehicle record, rather than an assumption that every Land Rover needs a Pull-Out System.

Send a clear photograph of the boot opening and tell us about any crate, cushion, luggage system or other equipment. The 86 cm system needs an opening of at least 900 mm; we check the complete installation as well as the width.
The mounting frame secures to the existing lashing points with the supplied straps. No drilling or permanent modification is needed. The steps fix in for use and are easily removable without tools.
