Choose a step width

Scan the QR code with your phone. It opens the 86 cm steps, folded, at full size through your camera.

Open your boot and scan the boot floor.

  1. Open your tailgate.
  2. Point your phone at the boot floor until it is recognised.
  3. Tap on the boot floor itself, not the ground behind the car.

Frame setup will vary to suit your vehicle.

The model is the 86 cm system. If AR is unavailable, turn it in the 3D explorer.

How the Dog Steps are made

Opens and closes in one movement.

Release the handle, lower the steps and fold them back into place.

The support foot moves into place as the steps open. Squeeze the handle to release the frame latches, then fold the steps back until they latch for travel.

Moulded, assembled and finished in Odenthal, Germany.

Built for real life.

Configured for your vehicle

The mounting arrangement is confirmed for your car. It can often be reset if you change to a similar vehicle.

Existing fixing points

The system secures to the lashing points in the boot. No drilling, cutting or permanent changes.

Under 20 cm when folded

The steps stow in a slim stack and can be removed without tools.

Stable underfoot.

Moulded carbon fibre

The complete system weighs approximately 12 kg and supports a dog weighing up to 70 kg.

Grip on every step

Rubberised tread is standard. Optional mats add a softer, higher-grip surface.

One support foot

The first step sits around 29 cm from the ground, or around 35 cm with the large SUV foot. We confirm the right version for your vehicle.

Why step height matters

Dog Steps break the height between the ground and the boot into smaller steps. In a 2018 study by researchers at Hartpury, 15 healthy adult dogs jumped from a simulated car boot. Landing forces through their front legs increased with the height of the platform, rising by approximately 25% between 55 cm and 75 cm.

Source: Pardey et al., Veterinary Record, 2018. The study did not test Dog&Drive products and does not demonstrate injury prevention. If your dog has an existing joint condition or mobility problem, discuss their access needs with your vet.

Before you decide.

The questions we are asked most.

Will Dog Steps fit my vehicle?

Select your make, model and year in the configurator and it will show what is available for that vehicle: both step widths, the 56 cm system only, a Pull-Out System, or a review by our team. Every system is configured for the vehicle you select, and no drilling or vehicle modification is required to fit it.

Which width should I choose?

The 56 cm system is narrower and can be mounted to the left, centre or right of the boot. The 86 cm system gives a wider approach for larger dogs or more than one dog, and mounts centrally. The configurator only offers widths available for your vehicle: where the boot opening is too narrow, 86 cm is not shown.

Does fitting alter the vehicle?

No drilling, cutting or permanent alteration is required. The configured frame tensions to the lashing points the vehicle already has in the boot, and it can be removed without tools. That is what makes it workable on a leased or company vehicle.

How much of the boot does it use?

The steps fold behind the closed tailgate, with the stowed angle set for your vehicle. The space needed depends on the boot and frame configuration. We check the clearances before manufacture. Dog Steps can be removed without tools when you need the whole boot.
