How can we help?

Find answers about vehicle fit, ordering and fitting, or speak to our UK team.

You do not need an account to place an order. If you checked out as a guest you can claim the order afterwards and follow it from your account.

From your vehicle to your door.

Dog Steps and Dog Cushions can be ordered online. Pull-Out, Full System and Bespoke Systems begin with an enquiry.

  2. We confirm the fit

A specialist reviews the opening, fixing points and configuration recorded with your order, and contacts you if any detail needs confirming. No drilling or vehicle modification is required.

  3. Made for your vehicle

Your system is manufactured and set at the Dog&Drive workshop in Germany, once the fit is confirmed.

  4. Delivered ready to fit

You receive tracking details when your order is despatched, along with fitting guidance and support if you need it.

Frequently asked questions

Fit, compatibility and price

Will Dog Steps fit my vehicle?

Select your make, model and year in the configurator and it will show what is available for that vehicle: both step widths, the 56 cm system only, a Pull-Out System, or a review by our team. Every system is configured for the vehicle you select, and no drilling or vehicle modification is required to fit it.

What if my vehicle is not listed?

Send us the make, model and year through the enquiry form. We will check which systems may be suitable.

Which width should I choose?

The 56 cm system is narrower and can be mounted to the left, centre or right of the boot. The 86 cm system gives a wider approach for larger dogs or more than one dog, and mounts centrally. The configurator only offers widths available for your vehicle: where the boot opening is too narrow, 86 cm is not shown.

How high is the first step?

Approximately 35 cm from the ground with the large-SUV foot and approximately 29 cm with the standard SUV and estate foot, subject to your confirmed installation. If you have a tall vehicle and a smaller or older dog, ask us before ordering. We can discuss whether a shorter first step is suitable.

I drive a large SUV. Which foot will I need?

Large SUVs are supplied with the large-SUV foot for the taller first step. Other cars come with the standard foot. If you are not sure which suits your vehicle, let us know and we will change it for you before manufacture.

Does fitting alter the vehicle?

No drilling, cutting or permanent alteration is required. The configured frame tensions to the lashing points the vehicle already has in the boot, and it can be removed without tools. That is what makes it workable on a leased or company vehicle.

How is the fit confirmed for my vehicle?

Boot apertures, sill heights, lashing points and fitted liners vary between trim levels and model years in ways a specification sheet does not capture, so a specialist reviews your configuration against the vehicle records before anything is manufactured. The frame and the stowed angle are set for that vehicle, and we contact you if anything needs confirming.

How much of the boot does it use?

The steps fold behind the closed tailgate, with the stowed angle set for your vehicle. The space needed depends on the boot and frame configuration. We check the clearances before manufacture. Dog Steps can be removed without tools when you need the whole boot.

Does the price include VAT and delivery?

The price shown includes UK VAT at 20%. UK delivery is added separately at £100 including VAT per product once your configuration is complete, and is itemised in the basket and at checkout. Dog&Drive Ltd is the importer of record, so import and customs-clearance costs are included and nothing further is payable to the courier.

Can I have a VAT invoice?

Yes. A VAT invoice is available for every purchase and carries Dog&Drive Ltd's VAT registration number, GB 526 7958 44. Whether your business can recover the VAT depends on its own circumstances. Ask your accountant if you are unsure.

Orders in progress

What happens after I order?

A member of the team reviews your vehicle details against the configuration you chose and confirms the planned fit. We contact you if anything needs confirming. Only then does manufacture start, and you can view order updates in your account.

How long will it take?

Dog Steps production takes approximately 4 weeks from confirmation of the fit. We confirm your build and delivery dates once the fit review is complete.

Can I change my configuration after ordering?

Contact us promptly with your order reference and the change you need. We will check what is possible, taking account of whether manufacture has started.

How do I track my order?

Sign in and open the order from your account. It shows the current production stage, the history of updates and, once despatched, the carrier and tracking reference. If you checked out as a guest, you can claim the order from the same place using the email address you ordered with.

Can I view an order placed as a guest?

You do not need one to order, and you can create one later with the same email address and claim the order to it. Your order confirmation email also carries the reference you need for any support request.

The product in use

Why use steps to get in and out?

Dog Steps break the height between the ground and the boot into smaller steps. A 2018 study by researchers at Hartpury measured landing forces in 15 healthy dogs jumping from a simulated car boot. The higher the platform, the greater the force through their front legs. The study did not test Dog&Drive products or establish that steps prevent injury or joint disease. If your dog has a mobility problem, ask your vet about suitable access.

How is the frame fitted?

The frame arrives configured for your vehicle. Attach it to the lashing points in the boot using the supplied straps and follow the fitting instructions. You can also find fitting guidance on this site.

Can I take it out?

Yes, without tools and in a couple of minutes. Keep the instructions: refitting in the same configuration is quicker with them to hand.

Can I move it to another vehicle?

The frame is specified for one vehicle but re-settable for a similar one. Some changes you can make yourself; others need the frame returning to us for reconfiguration. Tell us the vehicle you are moving to and we will say which it is. It is not a universal fitting.

How much weight does it support?

Up to 70 kg. Use the steps only while the vehicle is stationary, and supervise your dog while they climb.

How do I clean it?

Rinse mud off the treads and let them dry. Do not use solvents or a pressure washer on the carbon-fibre sections or the linkage. If the handle ever feels stiff or the latches do not re-engage cleanly, contact us rather than lubricating the mechanism yourself.

Something is not right. What do I do?

Use the returns form to report a fault or fitting problem, or contact us with your order reference. Include photographs of the system in the vehicle so we can understand the problem.

Let’s look at your vehicle.

Send your make, model and year, and tell us what you and your dog need. For an existing order, include your order reference.
